Boardwalk Leadership and The Wilson Center sign MOU

Agreement will create a global center for data on women’s participation in political and public service leadership positions

Media Release

Boardwalk Leadership and the Women in Public Service Project (WPSP) of the Global Women’s Leadership Initiative at the Wilson Center have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the purposes of collaboratively measuring data for women’s participation in political and public service leadership positions.

Their aim is to make available and transparent the data that exists, which includes Boardwalk’s DNA Diversity Toolkit, and work with partner institutions, government and other actors to collect further data, disaggregated by gender, that does not exist. The WPSP will host an online data platform that will be auto populated and will provide data visualization so that policy makers, scholars and the interested public can understand, analyze, and use the data to improve policy.

Commenting on the signing, Shaheena Janjuha-Jivraj, CEO, Boardwalk Leadership commented: “Boardwalk Leadership is excited to collaborate with The Wilson Center. Now more than ever there is a need for focused attention on building the pipeline and maintaining a strong baseline for women leaders in public sector. Our partnership will help to ensure transparency on data, benchmarking women in public sector leadership and we look forward to working together to create a comprehensive measurements that maintain and build momentum for gender leadership globally.”

Gwen K. Young, Director, Global Women’s Leadership Initiative and Women in Public Service Project, The Wilson Center added: “A strong evidence base is crucial to furthering women’s empowerment. We’re excited to partner with an expert in leadership training and reporting to leverage the data for substantive change.”
