Institute at China Women’s University (July 2014)
Time and Place
The Women in Public Service Project (WPSP) partnered with China Women’s University (CWU) as well four other distinguished Chinese academic institutions (Renmin University of China; China University of Geosciences, Beijing; China Youth University for Political Sciences; and China Institute for Industrial Relations) hosted the second WPSP Institute in Beijing from July 5 to July 11, 2014. The Institute provided delegates and attendees with strategies to advance their careers in public service, and served as an incubator for transformative and inclusive global leadership for women in public service in China.
According to Zhang Lixi, President of CWU, the Institute will inspire future generations of women leaders. China Women’s University is the first and most prestigious public Institute of higher learning in China uniquely for female students with a goal of cultivating high quality talents in its students.
Speakers at the opening ceremony of the Institute included Ambassador Moushira Khattab, a human rights activist and former politician and diplomat from Egypt; Dianne Lynch, President of Stephens College; Lyle Roelofs, President of Berea College; Olivia Cox-Fill, a social entrepreneur; and Lynn & Bob Johnston, members of the 50×50 leadership circle of the WPSP. Rangita de Silva de Alwis, Director of the WPSP, also provided opening remarks.
The Institute curriculum was designed by the WPSP Director and brought together emerging women leaders to share ideas and experiences and cross fertilize transnational strategies to advance women’s leadership in critical areas of public service.
