Senator the Honorable Michaelia Cash's Story

Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash is the Minister for Women.

Prior to commencing as a Senator for Western Australia in 2008, Senator Cash was a senior lawyer with the national law firm Freehills in its Perth employment and industrial relations practice. Senator Cash practiced in all areas of employment and industrial law including industrial relations, employee relations, occupational health and safety, equal opportunity, executive employment and unfair dismissal. In June 2001 Senator Cash was seconded to the Freehills Melbourne office for 12 months where she gained a valuable insight into the Federal Industrial Relations system.

Senator Cash has an Honours Degree in Law, which she received from the University of London, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a triple major in public relations, politics and journalism from Curtin University in Western Australia. Senator Cash also has a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Western Australia.

Senator Cash was a former member of the Senate Select Committees on Climate Policy and Men’s Health, which have since reported to the Senate. Senator Cash has also served as a Temporary Chair of Committees.

Senator Cash is married to Richard Price, a barrister. She is the daughter of former long serving Upper House Western Australian State MP and Minister in the Court Government, Hon George Cash AM.
