CWU Vice President Liu Meng stated in the opening ceremony that the Women in Public Service Institute provides young women with new opportunities for guidance and support and innovative ways of thinking about public service. In her speech, Mu Hong, Director of ACWF’s International Liaison Department, called WPSP and its Institutes a valuable example of US-Sino cultural exchanges. Former Director of WPSP at the Wilson Center Dr. Rangita de Silva de Alwis also spoke at the event.
The week-long event included workshops on teamwork, leadership, gender studies, and career planning. Speakers, delegates, and staff took part in the daily workshops to mentor the 60 students.
The WPSP Institute at CWU is funded by a three-year grant from the Ford Foundation and the curriculum was designed originally by the Women in Public Service Project at the Wilson Center.
