Naheed Farid's Story

Naheed Farid was elected to Parliament in 2010 at the age of 27, making her the youngest Member at the time. She is an advocate for the interests of women and children and serves on the International Relations committee. Previously she served as Executive Director of the Mother and Child Organization of Afghanistan and has worked for the World Food Program, Medica Mondiale, and Dacaar. Farid holds a master’s degree in international relations from George Washington University.

In the following interview with Context at the Wilson Center, Farid provides perspective on Afghanistan’s present and future with a special focus on the concerns and hopes for woman and young people.  She discusses how 2014 will be a big year for her country, making both an upcoming presidential election and the anticipated withdrawal of U.S. troops.
