The world's most comprehensive date framework for global gender parity

Women's leadership in governments drives economic growth and development. Yet despite the benefits of women's leadership, there is no comprehensive framework to demonstrate where women are in decision-making around the world. As a first step in moving towards a comprehensive framework, the Wilson Center and Visa Inc. hosted a roundtable of leading Bay Area experts in the private sector, women's leadership, nonprofits and academia to discuss the launch of the new Global Women's Leadership Initiative Index, the Leadership Index.

The Leadership Index provides a framework to analyze both challenges and opportunities to women's leadership, and the criteria by which to measure investment opportunities and progress. Using over 100 indicators, the Leadership Index is the first of its kind to measure power and leadership in a multidimensional way. The index utilizes a 3-pillar approach to measure progress toward gender parity, tracking the pathways for women to pursue leadership, the positions, they currently hold, and the power they are able to exercise within those positions.

The Expert Roundtable focused on how to use the methodology to understand the role of culture, unconscious bias and power play in women's leadership. They also analyzed the data gaps and how to fill and understand the gaps, data governance and the role of networks, technology and communications tolls in accelerating women's leadership across the globe.
