WPSP Announces Panel at the Concordia Summit

The Women in Public Service Project is excited to be a part of the 2016 Concordia Summit in New York City.

WPSP Director Gwen K. Young will moderate a panel with WPSP Fellow Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi, and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. The session “Women’s Political Participation: Leadership and the Global Agenda” will take place on Tuesday, September 20 from 5:10pm-5:45pm.

Entering the office of the Presidency of Liberia in 2005, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf became the first woman to lead an African nation. In 2012, Joyce Banda became the first female President of Malawi. The conversation between two of Africa’s most powerful women leaders will explore leadership on the continent, including the impact of leadership on policymaking and development objectives, but also the rise of Africa and its leaders on the global agenda.

This panel will be presented as part of the 2016 Concordia Summit. The Concordia Summit convenes the world’s most prominent business, government, and nonprofit leaders to enable effective partnerships for impact. Thought leaders and innovators gather at this global affairs forum to examine the world’s most pressing challenges and identify avenues for collaboration. The 2016 Concordia Summit will convene a diversity of opinions to discuss the power of partnership when tackling timely issues such as: cybersecurity and intellectual property, human rights and democracy, migration and emergency response, women’s empowerment and gender equality, forced labor and trafficking, international trade policy, and global health service delivery.
